What CiteLedger is - and is not
- Not legal advice. CiteLedger is a research tool that flags citations for attorney review. Its output is not legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and is not a substitute for your own professional judgment or your jurisdiction's rules.
- What a verdict means. FOUND means the citation exists in the reference database and resolves to the named case - nothing more. It does not mean the case is good law, has not been overruled, or supports the proposition cited. NOT FOUND, WRONG CASE, and quote flags are signals to investigate, not conclusions. See Methodology & known limits.
- You verify before you act. Before putting any CiteLedger output in front of a court or opposing counsel, independently confirm it. The reference database has coverage gaps and ingestion lag; CiteLedger's REVIEW verdict exists precisely because a machine should not accuse a lawyer of fabrication on incomplete evidence - and neither should you.
Beta terms
- The service is provided free, as-is, with no warranty of any kind and no uptime commitment during the beta.
- Usage limits (currently 5 checks per day per connection) protect shared infrastructure and may change.
- Don't abuse the service: no automated scraping of the verification API, no attempts to circumvent limits, no unlawful use.
- Liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service - which, in the beta, is nothing.
Data
Documents you check are processed in memory and not retained. Only extracted citations are sent to the reference database. No AI models, no training. Full details on the privacy page.
